Area 51 Caravan (2009)

Announcing The Area 51 Caravan Feeder Event

Friday, June 26, 2009, 1:00 pm

What is a Feeder Event?
MINIsOnTop “Feeder Events” are gatherings of MINI “pods” that converge on the MINIsOnTop headquarters hotel on Friday, the day before MOT. Several feeder events (the Yankee Candle Caravan and the Boston Caravan) join each other to form one large Caravan at the “Area 51” rest stop located about 15 miles north of Concord NH on I-93.

For those folks traveling to MINIs On Top from the Boston (MA) area, the Southern VT and NH areas, and anywhere in Eastern New England, we invite you to merge with the YC, Boston & A51 Caravans at (rest) Area 51 on I-93 located 15 miles north of Concord, NH. Travel time is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Boston (MA), 2 hours and 10 minutes from Providence (RI) and 1 hour and 40 minutes from Worcester (MA).

Signing Up for the Area 51 Event
A sign-up thread on MINI2 has been created for people to post their interest in being part of the YC/Boston/A51 Caravans. Head on over to the MINIsOnTop Feeder Events, June 26, 2009 thread on MINI2.com and register! Don’t forget to specify the meeting point where you will join the Caravan.

Getting to Area 51

We will be gathering at the Area 51 rest stop in Canterbury, NH on Friday at 1:00 pm. Area 51 is located in a rest area at approximately mile marker 51 on I-93 North about 15 miles north of Concord, NH

Arrival at the Event

Those interested in meeting up at Area 51 should arrive there no later than 1:00 pm.  This will allow plenty of time for socializing, biobreaks, and experiencing the finest in vending machine cuisine.

During the Event
By 1:30 pm

the Yankee Candle Caravan and Boston Area Caravans are scheduled to arrive at Area 51. That will allow everyone time to chat and get themselves organized into sub-caravans for the various routes that will be taken from Area 51 to the Attitash area.

At 1:45 pm

a Driver’s Meeting will be held in our end of the rest area. All participants should attend this meeting. We will discuss driving routes, guidelines, and communication issues.

At 2:00 pm sharp

the sub-caravans will depart sequentially for their drives to the Attitash area. Make sure that by 2:00 pm, you, your passengers, and your MINI have found your chosen sub-caravan and are prepared for departure.

Please go to THIS post to access online route maps and directions!

The expected arrival time in the Attitash area will be approximately 4:30 pm.

YC/A51 Caravan Communications

As with other New England MINI events, FRS/GMRS walkie-talkies are used for communication with event participants while en route. We use channel 7 and no sub-channel. At the event, you will also be provided with a cell phone number to call for emergency communications.
