There’s few things more enjoyable than driving a MINI in a crowd of other MINIs. You do have to suppress the urge to shout and point at every MINI you see (safety first, kids!), but otherwise it’s a fun way to stand out from the crowd. :-)

Don’t forget your FRS/GMRS radios! These walkie-talkies are a great way to stay in touch with the caravan for two purposes: safety and entertainment. The safety aspect involves receiving (or broadcasting) safety alerts (oversized trucks, pedestrians, bicyclists, porcupines, moose, roadkill and Staties) to others in the caravan. The entertainment aspect will be provided by lurking with your radio on. We’re all comedians and there are some very creative folks among us. Just keep it clean as some of us will be traveling with family!

I will be coming up with the Saturday MINI’s of Boston Caravan. I can’t wait to MOTOR! See you all at Loon Mountain.

  • I hope to join Friday’s Boston-area caravan with blalor (tho he may be in a Subaru – gasp!) but will need to play it by ear. I had so much fun last year!

  • Massachusetts Motoring Club will be meeting at Vic’s Waffle House in Tewksbury for anyone interested. :-)

Speaking of FRS/GMRS radios, does anyone have any suggestions on which to get or stay away from?

I currently have some cheapie $20/pair Motorola units that we use while hiking. I don’t expect them to have much range, so I’m in the market for something more appropriate for a caravan…

Hey Marcus, I’ve had goodluck with the Cobra Microtalks. Check amazon, they usually have some good deals. I would expect $40-$50 for a decent pair (20-30 mile range).
